US: 2016 Honda Civic sedan launches on November 12

November 10, 2015

The tenth generation 2016 Honda Civic sedan will start reaching Honda dealerships in the U.S. from November 12. Honda says that the 2016 Civic sedan has been given the most ambitious and extensive redesign in the brand’s 43-year history. The all-new model is offered in five grades – LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L and Touring. The range starts from the base LX grade that is priced at US$18,640, at just US$150 over the outgoing model.

The weight of the Civic has been reduced from 2,868 lbs to 2,795 lbs. The body now comprises of 59% high-strength steel and 14% of ultra-high strength steel, which is an increase of 4% and 13% respectively over the previous generation. The vehicle has procured a commendable 5-stars in the NCAP crash tests because of its ACE (Advanced Compatibility Body Structure) body structure and many other advanced safety features.

The interior has been made to look and feel premium with the use of soft-touch materials and better fit and finish. The 7-inch touchscreen display is offered for the infotainment system and to control HVAC functions. The system is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible and also supports app-based navigation. Noteworthy standard features include remote engine start, electronic parking brake, walk away door locking, dual-zone automatic climate control, adjustable driver’s-seat thigh support with 14 degrees of tilt, heated front seat backs, heated rear seat cushion and rain-sensing wipers.

The base LX and EX trim levels are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder naturally-aspirated gasoline engine that produces 158 hp and 138 lb.ft. (187 Nm) of torque. This engine can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or the CVT automatic transmission. The other engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline unit generating 174 hp and 162 lb.-ft. (220 Nm) of torque; and supplies drive to the other trim levels. This engine is exclusively coupled to the CVT automatic gearbox and returns fuel consumption figures of 35 mpg (14.88 km/l).  The 2.0-liter unit gives 31 mpg (13.17 km/l) with the manual gearbox and 35 mpg (14.88 km/l) with the CVT automatic gearbox.

Safety is addressed by the availability of the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance technologies. This suite includes technologies such as Lane Departure Warning (LDW) with RDM, Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) integrated with CMBS, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low Speed Follow and Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS).
