The 2016 Lincoln MKX was unveiled at the 2015 North American Auto Show in Detroit held in January. It is the first Lincoln to offer safety systems like Pre-Collision Assist and Pedestrian Detection along with a 5-star crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Administration.
The company informs that the all-new MKX is set to go on sale this Ssummer. It aims to introduce ‘Quiet Luxury’ in the midsize premium utility segment with the use of elegant design, safe ride and a unique tailored experience for the occupants.
The 2016 MKX features full-LED headlamps in a ‘blade’ design theme rather than the traditional projector layout. It features muscular front fenders, plastic cladding all around along with the signature horizontal Lincoln split-wing grille. The rear features a spoiler mounted on the tailgate, dual exhausts and wraparound LED taillamps with a unique filter, diffusing the light emitted from the LED’s.
Revel Audio will make its automotive debut in the 2016 Lincoln MKX, offering a 13-speaker system with Quantum Logic Surround Sound technology. It will be available in the Select and Reserve trim levels, employing a 12-channel Class D amplifier that has been designed for additional efficiency and increased dynamics. The Quantum Logic technology offers three distinct listening modes with a multi-dimensional surround sound experience.
A top-spec Revel Ultima system will feature a 19-speaker setup with point source architecture. It will feature a patented Clari-Fi technology which will restore all compressed audio sources in real-time. It employs a 20-channel high voltage hybrid amplifier to deliver class-leading performance. The Ultima system will be standard on all Black Label trim levels and available in the Reserve trim level.
Driver assist systems like the aforementioned Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping System, Blind Spot Information System along with Cross Traffic Alert has been included. Additionally, features like Auto Hold, hands-free powered tailgate, 360 camera with enhanced Park Assist and Lincoln Drive Control, which enhances the ride quality offering controlled damping and noise control, will also be on offer.
The all-new 2016 Lincoln MKX will also be available in four different Black Label themes at launch. Two new themes have been introduced in the Black Label series in addition to the existing Modern Heritage and Indulgence themes. The new Thoroughbred theme is inspired by the pageantry of high-stakes horse racing, while the new The Muse theme is inspired by the art scene and lifestyle of 1920s Paris.
The 2016 MKX will be offered with a choice of two engines – a new 2.7-liter V6 twin-turbocharged Ti-VCT EcoBoost engine producing 335 hp (249 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 515 Nm (380 lb-ft) of torque at 3,000 rpm on premium fuel and the standard 3.7-liter V6 engine which puts out 303 hp (225 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 376 Nm (278 lb-ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm. Both engines will feature a 6-speed automatic transmission with push-button shift and SelectShift, with an optional All-Wheel Drive system. The all-new model is built at the company’s facility located in Oakville, Ontario and has been priced at US$38,995 MSRP.
