Toyota has revealed pricing and specifications of the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid for the U.S. market. The 2016 RAV4 Hybrid is available in two trim levels, with prices in the US starting at US$28,370 for the base XLE trim level.
The first-ever RAV4 Hybrid is the eighth hybrid model in the Toyota lineup and is aimed at active young couples who put priority on fuel economy. The hybrid variant is touted by Toyota as not only the most powerful but also the most efficient RAV4. The RAV4 was given a facelift this year at the 2015 New York Auto Show. The exterior is now sleeker with a bold front fascia that comprises of the available LED headlights and DRLs along with a redesigned bumper. The sides gets sharp-looking rocker panels whereas the rear gets available LED tail lights and a revised bumper. Three new exterior colors have been added – Silver Sky Metallic, Black Currant Metallic and Electric Storm Blue.
The interior of the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid Limited features SofTex-trim for the seats, dash, door panels and the sliding center armrest. The front seats feature two-stage heating while the driver seat is eight-way power adjustable with lumbar support and memory function. Functions like Smart Key system with push button start, remote power liftgate, frameless auto-dimming rear-view mirror with Homelink and a storage compartment in the center console are present to enhance convenience.
Infotainment needs are taken care of by the Entune Audio Plus with Connected Navigation App operated through a 6.1-inch (optional 7.0-inch) touch screen display on the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid XLE. This unit supports HD Radio, SiriusXM Satellite and Connected Navigation via Scout GPS Link app. The instrument cluster is a 4.2-inch TFT display that shows all the information relevant to the driver.
Safety is ensured by presence of systems such as Toyota Safety Sense that are being offered as standard on the Limited and optional on the XLE grade of the RAV4 Hybrid. This package bundles technologies such as Pedestrian Pre-Collision System, Pre-Collision System (with Forward Collision Warning and automatic braking), Automatic High Beams, Lane Departure Alert, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Blind Sport Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert is standard fitment on hybrid variant.
The RAV4 Hybrid is powered by Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive that combines the 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor. The combined output is 194 hp and 206 lb.-ft. (279 Nm) of torque. These figures are enough to propel the crossover from 0 to 60 mph (96.56 km/h) in 8.1 seconds. Toyota expects the EPA-rated combined fuel economy be 33 mpg. The hybrid can also go 0.6 miles (1 km) on electric-only mode at speeds below approximately 25 mph (40km/h).
A new trim has been added to the standard RAV4 range – SE. This grade gets sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels and 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The interior is lavished with SofTex-trimmed seats featuring a power driver’s seat and contrast stitching. There is a choice of two interior colors – Black and Black/Cinnamon – along with a Black headliner, black A&B-pillar covers, door sill protectors and sport floor mats.
