Audi is extending its ties with wireless carrier AT&T to offer 4G LTE/3G coverage in more vehicles in its range in the USA. Both companies together announced at the 2015 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that all the MY2016 Audi vehicles equipped with Audi connect will come with AT&T 4G LTE or 3G coverage. Audi provided 4G LTE service in its cars for the first time on the Audi A3 in 2014.
As per the agreement, all MY2016 models equipped with Audi connect will be delivered with an AT&T SIM card which will provide the wireless network. This network can be used for streaming music, watching videos, surfing web and much more. Google Earth and Google Street View available on the MMI navigation plus can be accessed faster with the 4G LTE connectivity.
A dedicated mobile app will provide more functionality between the MMI infotainment system and smartphones. Audi will also offer a Mobile Share data plan option to AT&T customers for adding their vehicle to their existing smartphone or tablet data plan.
The MY2016 models (equipped with Audi connect) to be available with AT&T 4G LTE/3G coverage include the A3, S3, Q3, A4, S4, allroad, A5, S5, Q5, SQ5, A6, S6, A7, S7, RS7, TT, TTS, A8, and S8.
