BMW has launched the i Flexible Mobility program in the US. The program was announced about two years back in which BMW said it will lend cars to i3 customers for occasional long trips they may need to take. The program was announced keeping in mind the i3’s limited driving range of 81 miles per charge.
The program quietly launched in October this year without any big announcement. Not many dealers are likely to enroll in the program except the dealers in high volume locations with many i3 customers. These dealers will have to keep cars to be lent in a separate fleet and use them only for i3 customers who need the Flexible Mobility Program. Also, these vehicles must be new and be replaced with another new vehicle every year.
The dealers willing to participate in the program must participate in the i3 extended test drive program too. BMW will provide $600 per month subsidy for a maximum of five vehicles in the fleet but only if the dealership has offered a minimum 10 days of loaner service per month per vehicle. The extra days cannot be carried forward to the next month.
BMW i3 customers can use this program at any participating dealership in the country, even from the dealerships other than the one from where their i3 was purchased.
