Kia Motors has announced the pricing of the 2016 Optima mid-size sedan. The range is divided into five trim levels – LX, LX 1.6T, EX, SX and SXL, with prices starting at US$21,840 for the base LX trim. Kia has managed to hold on to the same price while including more features as standard.
The base trim level derives power from a 185 hp 2.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine which is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The vast list of standard equipment includes driver’s automatic down window, a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a backup camera, Sirius satellite radio, Bluetooth, manual six-way driver’s seat, cruise control, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, 16-inch aluminum wheels and chrome exterior trim.
Optima LX 1.6T:
This trim level retails at US$23,990 and is powered by a 178 hp 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It comes with a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth compatibility, driver’s knee airbag, heated and power-folding side mirrors, acoustic front window glass, auto up/down front windows, grey-finished 16-inch aluminum wheels, pushbutton ignition with keyless entry and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob.
The mid-level trim level is priced at US$24,890 and is offered exclusively with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder which is engine mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Features offered are dual projector-beam headlights, LED running lights, LED taillights, power folding and heated side mirrors, 12-way adjustable driver seat, heated steering wheel, leather-upholstered heated front seats, 17-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control and two rapid-charge USB ports.
The SX trim level is priced at US$29,690 and is pitted as a sporty offering. It is powered by a 245 hp 2.0-liter GDI turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine. In keeping with the sporty theme, the SX trim level is equipped with Bi-Xenon HID headlights with Dynamic Bending Lamps (DBL), sport-tuned suspension, paddle shifters, dual exhaust outlets, red-painted brake calipers, 18-inch aluminum wheels and a rear spoiler. It features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation also.
The range-topping Optima SXL is priced at US$35,790. It shares its mechanicals with the SX but comes with many additional features. Some of them offered as standard are quilted Nappa leather-trimmed seats, wireless charging system for smartphones, silver perforated stitching on the instrument panel and front door trim, 10-way power passenger seat, an electronic parking brake, adaptive cruise control, panoramic sunroof, automatic high beams, LED reading lamps and 18-inch wheels. Noteworthy safety and assistance features include rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, surround-view camera and lane-departure warning.
