The 2015 VW Touareg Hybrid is still on sale in the U.S. market, priced at US$66,995, but Volkswagen of America has announced that the Hybrid variant will be discontinued from the MY2016. For MY2016, only V6 and TDI Clean Diesel models will be available. The Touareg range was facelifted last year and the range has been updated for MY2016 with few changes.
The VW Touareg Hybrid’s hybrid powertrain consists of a 3.0-liter TSI supercharged V6 petrol engine that produces 333 hp and 325 lb.-ft. (441 hp) and an electric motor that produces 47 hp (34 kW) and 221 lb.-ft. (300 Nm) of torque. The V6 TSI Hybrid hybrid powertrain churns out 380 hp and 428 lb.-ft. (580 Nm) of torque. The electric motor is powered by a 288 volt Nickel-metal hydride battery that comprises 240 cells and weighs 174 lbs (79 kg). The hybrid model has its combined fuel consumption figure rated at 21 mpg (8.93 km/l).
For the MY2016, the Lux and Executive trim levels gain 14-way power adjustable ventilated seats. The Executive trim level also gains adjustable steering column, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist) Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist). The Driver Assistance Package on Sport w/Tech models will also feature Park Distance Control (Park Pilot). A 21-inch wheel package is optional.
The MY2016 V6 and TDI Clean Diesel models will see a price reduction of about US$2,000.
