Volvo has launched the Volvo FH and Volvo FH16 with an extra-low roof for usage in areas and operations where height is restricted. The FH and FH16 with low sleeper cab with extra low roof do not miss anything in comfort or flexibility, they feature the same driveline, comfort and flexibility as the other cab versions.

The roof however, has been lowered by 190 mm. Also, the entire roof has been flattened now that the aerials and other equipment have been relocated elsewhere. The lowered roof make the Volvo FH and Volvo FH16 very practical in mining where height is often a constraint.

There’s also an option of the aluminum roof shield for extra safety and protection against rocks and other hazards. Although the shield adds 15 mm to the cab’s total height, it’s actually an essential feature as it adds to the safety and also reduces in-cab noise levels.

The Volvo FH and Volvo FH16 are now available in a version with an extra-low roof, designed specifically for mining operations with high demands on productivity, and for applications with a crane operating above the cab roof.

“Certain customers need both low cab height and high load capacity. The Volvo FH and Volvo FH16 with low sleeper cab offer them the possibility of a rig with up to 750 horsepower and a gross combination weight of 120 tonnes,” says Roger Brorsson, product manager for Volvo FH at Volvo Trucks.

The Volvo FH and Volvo FH 16 with low sleeper cab come with the same driveline, comfort and flexibility as the other cab versions, but there are a couple of crucial differences. The roof has been lowered by 190 mm, and it is entirely flat since antennas and other equipment have been relocated elsewhere. With a potential total height of 3.2 metres, this version fits conveniently within the regular 3.4 m height limit of mine tunnels.

As a result, customers in the mining sector can benefit from the power and capacity of the latest Volvo FH series to increase their productivity. The low, flat roof makes it easier to install a timber crane whose transport position is above the cab roof, and with this configuration it is also more convenient to lift materials in front of the cab.

Extra roof protection as an option

For extra safety and protection against falling rocks and other hazards, there is an optional aluminium roof shield. The roof shield adds just 15 mm to the cab’s total height. In addition to protecting both the driver and truck, it also further cuts in-cab noise levels.

Available with all engine variants

The Volvo FH and Volvo FH16 with low cab roof are available on all Euro 3 to Euro 6 markets as of December 2014.
