Admist the long ongoing speculation of a high performance Volvo XC90 Polestar, Volvo has come out with performance upgrades for the flagship crossover and several other models.
This upgrade is known as the Polestar Performance Optimisation is priced at £835 including VAT and fitting in the UK. The performance upgrade improves power and torque figures of the D5 diesel and T6 petrol Drive-E engines at medium revs.
The power and torque figures of the 2.0-litre D5 Drive-E four cylinder diesel engine increases from 225 hp to 233 hp and from 470 Nm to 500 Nm respectively. The power and torque figures of the 2.0-litre T6 Drive-E four-cylinder petrol engine increases from 320 hp to 334 hp and from 400 Nm to 440 Nm respectively. Moreover, the upgrade also improves accelerator response and gearshift for faster functioning. The automatic gearbox gets tuned to prevent gearshifts during rapid cornering for better stability.
The Polestar Performance Optimisation upgrade is available for other engines powering other Volvo models also. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder D4 Drive-E diesel engine can be upgraded to provide 200 hp and 440 Nm, from 190 hp and 400 Nm respectively. This engine is offered in the Volvo S60, Volvo V40, Volo V40 Cross Country, Volo V60 and Volvo XC60. The power and torque figures of the T5 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine offered in the V40 and V40 Cross Country can be increased from 245 hp to 253 hp and from 350 Nm to 400 Nm respectively.
The Polestar Performance Optimisation upgrade can be carried out at any authorised Volvo dealer and takes 30 minutes to complete. The automaker also mentions that until the end of December 2015, all MY2005 to MY2015 all-wheel-drive Volvos can be be given this upgrade at a discounted price of £620.
