The Volvo S90, the successor to the Volvo S80, will have have its online world premiere tomorrow. The new flagship saloon from Volvo will be revealed to the world live from the Volvo Design Centre in Gothenburg in Sweden at 6:30 p.m. CET and the complete event will be available to watch here live.
The 2016 Volvo S90 will be a saloon-only model. It will have an estate version, but with a different name – Volvo V90. The Volvo V90 is expected to follow in the coming months and will replace the Volvo V70. Both models will be based on the Swedish automaker’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform currently used only by the second generation Volvo XC90.
The design and styling of these models has already been previewed by the Volvo Concept Coupe and the Volvo Concept Estate. The Volvo S90 and Volvo V90‘s production versions have already been leaked via scale models and appear to be in line with the new design language seen on the latest XC90.
Reports say that the Volvo S90 will be 125 kg lighter than the S80. Its conventional engine options will include 2.0-litre Drive-E petrol and diesel units. A Twin Engine petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain would also be offered.
The S90 will have its world premiere at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January and be built by the Zhejiang Geely-Volvo at Daqing plant in China. The V90 should follow in a year’ time at the max and be built in Sweden, assuming that it will be primarily targeted at the European markets.
