First seen at Worthersee 2011, the VW Golf R Cabriolet was publicly introduced at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Even though the seventh generation, MQB platform-based Golf hatchback was already unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the soft-top cabriolet was based on the sixth generation, PQ35 platform-based Golf.
Dutch publication Autovisie is reporting that the first-ever open-top R model is now discontinued. A follow-up on Volkswagen’s websites of prominent European markets like Germany, UK, Netherlands, Spain and France reveals that the model is no longer available to configure.
This isn’t the only cabriolet the company is discontinuing this year. The nine-year old Eos was also reported to be getting discontinued this year, with production ending by end of next month. The order books for the hardtop convertible were closed in March this year.
