Volkswagen launched the Golf R Variant Launch Edition at the Volkswagen Fest 2015 in Odaiba, Tokyo for the Japanese market.
The Launch Edition benefits from two-tone grey and black Nappa leather seats, 19-inch black 10-spoke aluminum wheels with blue stripes, and “R” logo on the brake calipers. Body paint choices include Lapis Blue, Deep Black Pearl and Oris White. Oris White costs extra ¥64,800 though.
Under its hood, there’s a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder TSI petrol engine which produces 206 kW (276 hp) and 380 Nm of torque. The engine is matched to a 6-speed manual transmission. The four-wheel drive performance station wagon returns a decent fuel economy 14.2 km/l in JC08 test cycle.
The Golf R Variant Launch Edition is priced at ¥5,818,000 (inclusive of taxes) in Japan. Only 100 units of the Launch Edition will be sold, of which deliveries will commence in June.
