Nothing says luxury like a special edition tuning kit from WALD International, and to prove it the company has released updated pictures for its modified Mercedes-Benz AMG-GT Black Bison. The company first promoted its Black Bison Edition at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon. Today they released a preview of the updated version of the Black Bison Edition. The company has done previous Black Bison Editions, including one for the Mercedes-Benz SUV.
There are no performance upgrades for the Black Bison, instead WALD is focused on making the body much more aggressive with new bumpers, side skirts, matte black and orange accents and a more prominent splitter.
The rear of the car features a bumper with side vents, a fixed wing and reshaped dual exhaust tips to go with the new diffuser. The spoiler is borrowed from the Mercedes-AMG GT S Edition 1.
The Black Bison package comes with stiffer suspension rings and red accents along some of its other add-ons.
The red and orange accents show off the unique Mercedes-AMG lines nicely.
The kit also features a set of matte black wheels.
Overall, the visual impact of the Black Bison Edition is strong, particularly when paired with the already super tight interior on the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT.
So why is it called the “Black Bison?” The company explains that the aggressive face of the car resembles a “Bison which has held up through some desperate struggle.” This is a bit unusual, since most car companies prefer to name their vehicles after animals known for their sleek, fast ways, like cougars and broncos. A bison, with its heavy features and plodding footwork, does’t immediately have a natural comparison with a high-performance car. Likewise, the company’s decision to name it “black” bison, which is an odd fit since the kit doesn’t include body components that are the color black, unless you count the matte black wheels.
In the end, the name won’t really matter to consumers if they are drawn to the epic style that WALD likes to drop on its vehicles. WALD has been a staple on the luxury aftermarket accessories market since 1994. WALD is raved about by people who drive high-end performance cars, like athletes, musicians, actors and other celebrities who enjoy cruising Sunset Strip in their WALD outfitted cars.
Although WALD did not modify the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 unit, the AM-GT is sill an amazing performer. The car can will hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4 seconds or less, depending on which version of the car you purchase. The V8 is paired with a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission, making the Mercedes-AMG GT a speed demon. With 503 HP of power and a torque of 479 lb-ft, the Mercedes-AMG is surely an impressive beast – and maybe that’s the analogy WALD was aiming for.
WALD’s new kit is available in both carbon-fibre or fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP). No prices have been quoted for the Sports Line Black Bison Edition.
