To compete in this year’s Zero Race competition, a team of Swiss engineers have designed and fabricated a mind-boggling creation that will leave you, well, breathless.
Firstly, about Zero Race competition – this is an event that demands teams to build an automobile that can travel around the globe in 80 days. Easy, even my VW Jetta can do it. But there’s a catch. To qualify for the competition, the vehicle should not exhale even an iota of emission.
The only way to work around this challenge is going electric.
The Swiss engineers taking part in this competition have prepared what they call as “ZeroTracer.” It is 2-wheeled vehicle which can park with the assistance of a pair of balancing wheels. It can seat two passengers and is built using Kevlar to keep things light. The chassis comes from a motorcycle which is fitted with disc brakes.
Coming to the specifications – The 2-wheeler can reach a maximum speed of 250 km/h. Thanks to the light weight and minimum contact surface, the vehicle will travel 350 km on a single charge.
The 18 kWh, 400V battery pack and motor join hands to produce no less than 183hp catapulting the zero-emission vehicle from a standstill to a 100kph in 4.5 seconds. It takes about 2 hours for the batteries to be topped up and just 30 min for a 80% charge.
Operating the vehicle is like riding a motorcycle. You’ll have to transfer your body weight to navigate corners.
